Remember the Ratings

I've listened to a lot of opinions, some from trained John Hopkins doctors and disease researchers, and some from people who watch the red alerts from various media resources. I'm talking FOX, CBS, and even the New York Times. What really bugs me is the fact that even though what they report is true, they're leaving out crucial details about corona that would stop a lot of the mass hysteria. For example, the news shows a man in his early twenties hospitalized in a new york times article threatening  Millenials with I was perfectly healthy and you guys could be next..... Uh ok lets cut the crap for a minute and talk straight facts. Science is not all that evolved when it comes to understanding our own biology. Everything we know today as fact is actually a theory. Do you know why ??? because something else could come along and make something untrue. Like bloodletting was theory before we realized oh crap this is kinda killing people. So when some random outlier in the great grand infected toll says oh I was perfectly healthy and the disease is gonna mess you up just as bad, remember that nothing is certain and that yes some young people are getting deafly ill know that countless HEALTHY people die of the common cold too. And scientists are just shaking there heads cause sometimes we don't know the answers. Just like we don't know a direct origin of cancer, or how some perfectly babies randomly die of cot death. BUT reporters don't get paid to recite facts, they get paid to entertain believe it or not. Reporters report this disease like everything is new when in fact it's not. We don't hear about Johny Carrot dying of a sniffle, because it's normal.
It is important to remember that yes this disease is something we've never experienced before and there is a lot of reasons to be scared of this. I am not trying to play this down at all, I'm simply putting biased journalism in its place. After hearing media, and then actual professionals talk about this I've noticed a huge difference in how information is presented. I'm not gonna say fake news or anything but there is a withdrawal of information that might help a lot of people get over fearing this virus.
First of all, it's an RNA virus meaning it works almost exactly like the seasonal flu. The main cause of concern about this virus is it's impeccable ability to spread. So when we talk about the concern of elderly people dying, that's true with any RNA virus. If you have a cough you can't visit nana in the nursing home. What people are freaking out about is how in comparison to other RNA virus this thing can stay in surfaces much longer and get this 80% OF PEOPLE HAVE IT AND DON'T REALIZE. That's right people, the nasty corona you might be afraid of getting, you might currently have or had it. The disease has multiplied itself so many times that it affects barley register in most bodies. So yes, social distancing is key and quarantine is necessary but it's because we can't trust that you yourself aren't carrying this bug.
Remember the projected death tolls and the surpassing China stuff they put on the news??? Yeah well, imma shed some light on that too. First of all the influxes of cases we've had recently are because we are just now getting corona testing kits out to the public for more widespread use. Secondly, would anyone in their right mind think that we, a population of 327 million could surpass CHINA with roughly 1.4 billion ??? HAHAHA, you gotta be kidding me CBS. China has soooo many people its impossible to test how many were affected by this widespread illness. Their cities are packed so full that they can barley police it let alone go to every countryside and providence to check every case. We're just now getting test kits to our people, imagine how much harder that would be for 4.5x times that. By the time they could the virus had already subsided.
So remember, don't be a sheep of mass media, and don't trust everything you hear: cause the reality of things is most often boring and not something people wanna watch. For sources of good unbiased research check out the CDC to see how you can protect your fellow Americans from this epidemic! Also Sanje Gupta has a podcast that really helped me out in understanding this epidemic: Corona Facts vs. Fiction. And the next time you plop down to watch the evening news for controversial information diversify your knowledge! Definitely don't take my word for it.

  1. I definitely agree that reporters get paid to entertain regardless if it true or not. Not just that but about anything they know they can catch someones attention and ends up blowing up. Some of those people don't even care what they can be doing or even saying and how can affect someone's life and the damages they can end up causing on someone or just multiple people. And I also can agree that people withdrawal information that might help a lot of people get over fearing this virus. They don't always tell the really specific things that can really help people and they don't even realize it .

  2. I know that reporters get paid to entertain us, but I still believe that we need to take as much caution as possible. This virus is spreading rapidly and that is scary. What's even more scary is that the government has us on lock down, but people can't seem to grasp that concept. If we just did as we're told, to help save lives, we'd all be able to go back to our normal everyday living. Because people don't know how to follow rules and listen, all of our lives are being put on hold and it's quite literally irritating.

    1. I am right there with you, this whole process has been very troubling. I am very concerned for those who still go outside and disregard the safety guidelines. Honestly its a slap in the face because even though it might not be the end of the world it is most certainly serious!!!

  3. Well I must say that I truly understand both points of view from the two of you! I think it is most definitely important to point out the media's role in all of this but it is also true that it is a real threat. I like that Trish pointed out my withholding factoid that is all too true. It's really the basis to all faulty journalism.

  4. I also understand both and agree with both points being said, however I do strongly agree that someone shouldn't get all their facts straight from the news and media platforms. I think everyone should do more research into all of this and learn more behind what's going on that the news or media isn't telling us. We had a huge flu outbreak a couple of years ago that did kill a lot of people and did spread like the corona, but that wasn't taken as serious as this is right now. To me, it all comes down to if you're sick or don't feel well then you should not go out into public like any other sickness someone may have.

  5. I feel as reports should only state facts in this time of need. I feel like this pandemic had the country in an uproar and we need all the support and help we can get. and I also feel that this is not a time to play and joke there are thousands of people sick and passing away due to Covid-19
